Data representation

Year 2
Recognise and explore patterns in data and represent data as pictures, symbols and diagrams (ACTDIK002)
|
Finding patterns in patterns encourages students to think critically and creatively when looking at data. Students record various "skip counting" number sequences on a 100-board using either a printed version, an online interactive board or a peg board. They are encouraged to notice and describe the visual patterns created on the board. By overlaying two number sequences, new patterns emerge. Students can use an app such as Shadow Puppet EDU to record their thinking about the patterns they see in the numbers.
This activity has strong links to the Year 2 Mathematics curriculum:
Investigate number sequences, initially those increasing and decreasing by twos, threes, fives and tens from any starting point, then moving to other sequences (ACMNA026)
Describe patterns with numbers and identify missing elements (ACMNA035)
